Co-operative Choir Shield – Midlands Section Festival
Major co-operative celebrations were held every year at places like Belle Vue in Manchester and the Crystal Palace in London. These shields were awarded to the winners of choir competitions. The shield reads: ‘Given by the Co-operative Union of Great Britain for Excellence in Choral Music. Midland Section Festival.’ Names of the winners listed on this plaque include: Lenton and Nottingham 1903, Lincoln 1904-1905, Grimsby 1906, Derby 1907-1910, Lincoln 1911, Derby 1912, Peterboro 1913, Leicester 1914, Stirchley 1915, Mansfield 1916-1917, Longeaton 1918, Mansfield 1919-1920, Stirchley 1921, Northampton 1922, Longeaton 1923, Stirchley 1924, Longeaton 1925, Leicester 1926, Longeaton 1927-1929, Mansfield 1930-1932, Derby 1933-1934, Mansfield 1935-1936.
