2014 marks the 170th anniversary of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society. To celebrate this special anniversary the Pioneers 170 blog will guide you through the Pioneers’ first year.
The Pioneers are moving quickly towards their store opening by now, and this week the main order of business is appointing staff. William Cooper is given the job of cashier, and Samuel Ashworth is to be the salesman. Their wage is to be 3d an hour. William Cooper and Samuel Ashworth went on to serve on the opening night of the Pioneers’ store.
